Atmospheric Waves Trapped by Emissions Caused Extreme U.S. Heat
Atmospheric Waves Trapped by Emissions Caused Extreme U.S. Heat

Picture: This is a picture of the sun. Green house gasses are trapping air waves in the atmosphere, causing major heat waves.
Summary: Green house gasses, caused by man, are trapping air waves in the atmosphere. This is causing extreme weather, such as heat waves, and flash floods. Man made climate changes disturb the way waves usually move cold and warm air. In recent weather, the waves have just stopped moving for weeks. Instead of bringing cold air in after warm air, warm air just stays, causing major heat waves. President Obama has now admitted that climate change is a top priority in his second term in office. He says that " heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and flood are now more frequent and intense." Scientists at the Potsdam Institutes discovered that global warming disrupts temperature changes, which are a driving force for air flow, trapping the waves in the atmosphere.
Opinion/ Reflection:
I honestly wasn't surprised to hear that global warming is yet the cause of other extreme weather. It has been effecting the climate so much lately, and I am happy to hear that President Obama is making it a priority to fix this issue. The government of each country needs to step up and take this more seriously before the rest of the world will. They need to do something about global warming before it is too late, and the climate, many ecosystems, and many habitats are destroyed.
Questions:
1- Why is it so important to help stop the production of green house gasses?
2- Why are the waves in the atmosphere so important to the climate?
3- Why are temperature changes so important to the climate?
4- What do you think President Obama needs to do to raise the awareness about man made green house gasses, and hopefully stop the production of them?
5- What are man made green house gasses doing to the atmosphere?

Okay...This one is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI decided to invite Richard A. Muller, a well-known scientist who is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of California at Berkley, as well as a Faculty Senior Scientist at the Lawrence Berkley Laboratory where he is associated with the Institute for Nuclear and Particle Astrophysics. He specializes in topics that we are learning in class, such as global warming, the greenhouse effect, and physics. He recently worked on a major research project to make independent evaluations of global warming, and he also has written two books, "Energy for Future Presidents", and "The Instant Physicist. I felt like Muller would be an interesting person to invite since he understands so much on these topics, and since he has worked on a major research project.
My E-Mail to Richard A. Muller:
Dear Richard A. Muller,
Hello, my name is Phillip Ho, and I am a Freshman at the Hatboro-Horsham High School, currently taking Honors Environmental Science. I have seen that you have worked on a research project that involves making independent evaluations on global warming, so I decided to look up online to learn more about you. I found out that you are a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of California in Berkeley, and that you have wrote two books, "Energy for Future Presidents", and "The Instant Physicist". I also found out that you are successful in environmental science because you talk about global warming and analysis of Fukushima and the Gulf Oil Spill in your recent book "Energy for Future Presidents". I am writing this e-mail to you to invite you to a blog. This blog is a assignment that we had to do in our Environmental Science class where we create a blog with a small amount of people in our class. Our blog is titled "Green is the New Black" because it discusses about current environmental issues and research on these issues. Recently, one of my classmates posted a blog regarding atmospheric waves being trapped by man-made greenhouse gasses which are causing heart waves in the U.S. Since you have worked on this major research project on global warming, known as Berkeley Earth, I thought you would be the right person to comment on this blog post regarding this issue. Below this e-mail is a link to this blog article about this issue, and I clearly understand that you are busy with your work, but it will be beneficial to me and my class if you would take some time to comment on our blog. Your opinions and any extra information we need to know would also be very helpful and appreciated. I do apologize if this e-mail is starting to get extremely long but I do thank you for taking some time to read this e-mail and we really hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Phillip Ho

ReplyDeleteThis article talks more in-depth about Obama’s promise to help with global warming and make America a more environmentally friendly country. Before he was elected for the second term he made the promise, and climate activist are going to make sure he keeps his word. Recently, a proposal to put in the Keystone XL Pipeline caused uproar in the activist. This pipeline is extremely bad for the environment, and would not help make America an environmental friendly country. Activists are waiting for Obama’s say on the Keystone XL Pipeline. If he shares an opinion with the activist then they will be happy. The pipeline won’t be passed and it will be good for our countries environment. But what if he does support the pipeline? What will activist do then? This article was very informative and very interesting. I knew Obama made important decisions all the time, but this one decision will either make a lot of people mad or a lot of people happy. What will happen?
1- Why is it so important to help stop the production of green house gasses?
ReplyDeleteIt is important because this is the cause of global warming. The greenhouse gases are increasing the temperature and melting the ice on earth.
2- Why are the waves in the atmosphere so important to the climate?
If there are too much wavers it can lead to causing extreme weather, such as heat waves, and flash floods.
3- Why are temperature changes so important to the climate?
If the temperature changes too dramatically it will affect all civilization, because it will melt the ice caps and flood the coasts of all the continents.
4- What do you think President Obama needs to do to raise the awareness about man made green house gasses, and hopefully stop the production of them?
He needs to find ways to create greener and more Eco friendly ways to take place of the man made greenhouse gases.
5- What are man made green house gasses doing to the atmosphere?
They are melting ice caps in the arctic and increasing temperatures over the past decades.
Opinion/ Additional Question
ReplyDeleteI agree that more countries around the world need to step up and take action against global warming. It is a global issue, and although it it great the the US is taking steps to help, we play a small role in comparison to the size of the Earth. This issue needs more recognition so more people and places can get on board to stop it.
Question: What can WE do to help fight global warming?
